Further news of the Empire medal.

There have been further developments in the story of the Empire medal found near Llandovery, which adds a local dimension (click here for the story). Here are some extracts from the South Wales Guardian of Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Clare Snowdon  (South Wales Guardian) writes –

“The silver war badge found in the Towy Valley by a pair of metal-detecting enthusiasts is one step closer to making its way back to its owner.”

“Thanks to Guardian readers Gethin Vaughan, Emlyn Jones and members of the Llandovery History Society we can now reveal that the soldier was Private William Roberts.

Records show that he enlisted into both the 2nd and 3rd Battalions, South Wales Borderers.

It is thought that he was born in November 1875 and possibly lived as a teenager in Cilycwm, where he may have remained into his older years.”

“The Guardian is now urging readers who may know anything about Private William Roberts to get in touch. If you think you could help reunite the silver war badge with William Roberts’s family ring 01269 592074.”
