We’ve received the following enquiry, but Mr Thomas did not leave an email address. I’m sure we can help him, but need to be able to contact him, so please Mr Thomas, send us your email!

My grandmother was born in Penybont, Cilycwm on 11th. April 1859. Her name was
Margaret Davies and her parents were: David Davies, occupation a Carrier and Jane Davies (nee Thomas). Shortly after her birth the family moved to Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil where they lived for the rest of their lives. I could not find any evidence of brothers or sisters to Margaret Davies.
I visited Cilycwm some years ago with a caravan club, staying in a farmer’s field a few hundred yaerds north of Cilycwm. I did make some enqiries to see whether I could find Penybont. The only place I came across was a derelict cottage near the river and not far from a bridge crossing the river. This was approx a half to one mile south of Cilycwm. Obviously Davies is a very common name though I have looked at cencus records to see if I can find any evidence of relations from the area without success. My father was Idris Thomas, son of Benjamin Thomas and Margaret Davies. He lived in Merthyr but moved to Cardiff in the 1930’s, where I was born. I don’t know if there is any information you can give me about any local Family History groups to help me in my enquiries.
Many thanks for any help
Alun Thomas.
